Week 20

  • Proverbs 1-2

  • Proverbs 3-4

  • Proverbs 16-18

  • Proverbs 31

  • 1 King 11-12

The Book of Proverbs and the Book of Ecclesiastes is a result of Solomon’s prayer for wisdom. Proverbs contains some of the most practical advice in the entire Bible, and its wisdom covers everything from relationships to leadership, from how to spend money to how to spend time. Proverbs begins with a prologue stating that the purpose of the book is to provide wisdom and insight for how to live as a child of God. Next, chapters 1–2 describe why a person should desire wisdom and the benefits wisdom brings to a person’s life. At its core, wisdom is the skill of living life according to God’s ways, which Solomon summarized in Proverbs 1:7, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.” Fear of God speaks to the awe and wonder that results from understanding who God is and how entirely dependent we are on Him. This is the foundation on which everything else in our lives is built.

How are you pursuing God’s wisdom in your life right now? What is the next step you need to take based on your readings and the Spirit’s prompting?
