They Wanted Rome Gone. Jesus Wanted Sin Gone - Matthew 21:1-11

Palm Sunday: The King We Wanted vs. The King We Needed

Palm Sunday is one of the most powerful—and misunderstood—moments in the life of Jesus.

As He entered Jerusalem, crowds shouted:

“Hosanna! Blessed is the King!”

They waved palm branches, laid down their cloaks, and celebrated Him as the long-awaited Messiah.

But just days later, many of those same voices would cry:

“Crucify Him.”

What Changed?

The problem wasn’t Jesus.

The problem was their expectation.

They wanted a king who would:

    •    Overthrow Rome

    •    Restore political power

    •    Fix their immediate problems

But Jesus came to do something far greater:

He came to defeat sin.

The Lordship Question

When Jesus told the disciples,

“The Lord needs them,”

He wasn’t just borrowing a donkey.

He was declaring His authority.

The same question applies today:

👉 Is Jesus truly Lord of your life?

👉 Or is He just someone you turn to when things go wrong?

A Warning for Today

It’s easy to follow Jesus when:

    •    Life feels good

    •    Prayers are answered

    •    Things go your way

But true faith says:

“Jesus, You are Lord—no matter what.”

Not just Savior.

Not just helper.

Lord.

Don’t Miss What Brings Peace

Jesus wept over Jerusalem because they missed it.

They were so focused on what they wanted that they missed what they needed.

That same danger exists today.

We can:

    •    Go to church

    •    Celebrate Easter

    •    Know the story

…and still miss the point.

This Week’s Challenge

As you head into Easter:

    •    Talk about Jesus with your family

    •    Reflect on His sacrifice

    •    Ask yourself honestly:

“Is He truly Lord of my life?”

Because following Jesus isn’t about adding Him to your life.

It’s about surrendering your life to Him.
